From East Tennessee. Russellville, Jan. 20. --Major Day attacked a force of the enemy, one hundred and fifty strong, near Big Spring, near Tazewell, yesterday, with one hundred men, killing and wounding six, capturing three lieutenants, sixty-four men, seventy horses, six wagons and teams, and ambulances, and fifty stand of arms. It is reported on good authority that the enemy have crossed the river at Strawberry. Our cavalry are still pursuing them. A large amount of leather, flour, and iron was captured. Brig. Gen. Vause, who had undertaken an expedition to Sevirville from North Carolina, it is reported here, have been captured, together with fifty of his men, at that place.
From the Southern coast. Pascagoula, Jan. 20. --The enemy's , also repeated discharges of musketry at the west end of Horn Island, was distinctly heard here this morning. Two gunboats are in sight off the point of Bois Island. On the 18th a fore and after schooner, supposed to be a blockade runner, was seen beating up the Sound from the eastward. Owing to the violence of the wind she came to anchor under leeward of the Island, when the gunboat boarded and took her in tow, steering westward. Several discharges of heavy ordnance were heard in a southwesterly direction. The rumored landing of troops at Peslington's is without foundation.
From Charleston. Charleston, Jan. 20. --The enemy continue the bombardment of the city. One hundred and twenty-four shells have been fired since the last report, up to half past 5 this evening. The number of vessels inside the bar the same as usual, including the Ironsides and monitors.
Destructive Fire at Columbia, S. C. Columbia, S. C. Jan. 20. --There was an immense conflagration of cotton on the lots near Charleston Depot yesterday. Nearly 3000 bales were burnt. Government loss 800 bales. The whole loss is estimated at $2,000,000. It is supposed to be the work of an incendiary.
