[special correspondence of the Dispatch.] Norfolk, Feb. 14. The information of the enemy in our rear has inspired our people with vigilance, and a determination to resist his aggressive movements to the best advantage, and with every possible means. Nine of the Federal gunboats are reported over the bar at the mouth of North river, in Currituck county, North Carolina, and several of their side-whell gunboats passed into the mouth of the Albemarle and Chesapeake yesterday, and three of them came up the Canal sufficiently far to fire shot and shell among the Confederate forces at the Canal bridge. Active preparations are going on to give the Yankees a reception that will be honorable and creditable to the defenders of the soil. The Commercial says that our army in Central Kentucky is in motion. Gen. Nelson's division is marching along the Glasgow turnpike. General Mitchell's division had crossed Green river on Monday morning, taking the advance of the main column to Bowling Green. Reconnoisance of Fort Donelson. St. Louis, Feb. 14. --Four more regiments marched from Fort Henry last night on reconnoitering parties, and went within one mile of Fort Donelson, A squadron of our cavalry barely escaped capture by the nine hundred rebel cavalry, supported by infantry. There are only ten feet of water on Harpeth Shoala. The river is falling rapidly, and our pilots say that the Federal gunboats will not be able to pass over to-morrow. The special dispatch from Fort Donelson to the Nashville Union and American says that Fort Donelson was attacked by six gunboats this afternoon. A terrible fight for nearly two hours. Not a man or gun on our side was hurt. Two Federal gunboats were badly injured; a third was crippled, and all retired. No demonstrations were made by the infantry and land forces to-day. The enemy, it is believed, has received reinforcements. We expe
