we had thirteen officers and 725 men present. Thereafter three companies were furnished for picket every third day. General Beauregard arrived at Camp Milton March 2, and inspected the lines. Maj.-Gen. J. Patton Anderson assumed immediate command there the succeeding day. Beauregard telegraphed the War Department that he woulion it merited in Congress and by the press.
