The Alexandria soldiers. In the distribution of subscriptions for the benefit of the Alexandria soldiers, it should not be forgotten that there is a company from that city not attached to the 17th regiment, yet equally deserving. It is a cavalry company, usually called "Powell's Roughs," commanded by that brave and gallant man, Capt. E. B. Powell, of Alexandria. This company has done good service since its organization, first as picket guard at the Long Bridge, and giving notice of the approach of the Federals on the 24th of May last; and, in that retreat, burning the bridges in the rear. Then, in the great battle of Manassas, the men displayed such bravery as to attract the especial attention of General Johnston, who has since taken them for his body guard. This heroic band of refugees should not be excluded from the benefits which the kind-hearted people of the South are bestowing on others.
