General Banks, at Baltimore, acting under the direction of authorities at Washington, this morning seized the steamers Mary Washington and George W. Weems, both owned and commanded by the Weems Brothers.
These steamers have been running for a number of years between Baltimore and the ports of the Patuxent River, and it is said carried down a number of passengers who joined the Confederate army.
The seizure was to prevent their being taken in a similar manner to the St. Nicholas n well chosen.
Among those in command of companies are sons of the late Rufus Choate, Thomas G. Cary, and the lion.
Josiah Quincy, Jr. The staff are all well mounted.
Capt. Thomas, or the French lady who a short time previously captured the steamer St. Nicholas on the Patuxent River, was himself captured by the Baltimore police.--(Doc. 74.)

A large and enthusiastic meeting was held in New Haven, Ct., in response to the call of President Lincoln for volunteers.
Speeches were made by Senator Dixon, Governor Buckingham, Rev. Dr. Bacon, A. P. Hyde, T. H. Bond, Rev. Dr. Nadal, G. F. Trumbull, C. Chapman, Capt. Hunt, and others.
Commodore Andrew H. Foote presided over the meeting.
Gen. Shepley, Military Commandant of New Orleans, this day issued an order extending the time in which those who had been in the military service of the confederate States could take the parole to the tenth instant.--Gen. Butler issued an order authorizing several regiments of volunteers for the United States army to be recruited, and organized in the State of Louisiana.
A reconnoissance by the First Maine cavalry was this day made as far as Waterloo, on the Rappahannock River, Va.--A band of rebel guerrillas visited the residence of a Unionist named Pratt, in Lewis County, Mo., and murdered him.

An engagement occurred at Boonsboro, Md., between the National cavalry, under Generals Buford and Kilpatrick, and the rebels, under Generals J. E. B. Stuart, Hampton, and Jones, resulting in the defeat of the latter.--(Doc. 32.)
The brig W. B. Nash, in latitude 40°, longitude 70°, was captured and burned by the rebel privateer Florida.--at Louisville, Ky., a meeting of the citizens was held to take measures for the defence of that city, then threatened by the rebels, supposed to be under Generals Morgan and Buckner.
A resolution was adopted: That all male citizens between the ages of eighteen and forty-five be enrolled into companies for service, if required, and that all such who refuse shall be sent to the North.
