The enemy Evacuating East Tennessee. [from our own Correspondent.] Bristol, Sept. 28. --The enemy burned the railroad bridge at Carter's station, twenty miles from here, on the Virginia and Tennessee Railroad, on Saturday, evacuated the place, and are now retreating in the direction of Knoxville, our forces pursuing. Our cavalry occupied Jonesboro', Tennessee, last night. O. K.
From the Rapidan. Gordonsville, Sept. 27. --All quiet at the front. Thirteen Yankee pickets, captured near United States ford, were sent through the lines to the Richmond train. Seven deserters, from Lane's (N. C.) brigade, were shot at Orange Court House yesterday. [second Dispatch.] Gordonsville, Sept. 28. --No further movements reported to-day. The enemy's force beyond the Rapidan is represented at 60,000 effective men. Meade's headquarters are above Culpeper Court-House. Opinions are conflicting as to whether there will be a fight soon or not.
