Norfolk, 19th October, 1861.
There are various war rumors about town to-day; but, as they are not considered authentic, they cause but little concern or excitement.
The statement about the fleet in Hampton Roads is believed to be fully confirmed, and the general impression here is that some important movement will shortly take place.
The flag to be presented to-day to the Third Regiment Alabama Volunteers is very handsome.
The ceremony will take place in Academy Square. Our esteemed and talented townsman, Dr. J. J. Simkins, will deliver the presentation speech, and Col. Battle will respond.
On one side of the flag there is a portrait of President Davis, which is painted in beautiful style, and on the other the coat-of-arms of Alabama.

Federal gun-boat off Eddyville skirmish in Jackson county.
The Lincolnotes Defeated — engagement between Gens. Hardee and ward, &c.
Nashville, Tenn., Oct. 19.
--A private dispatch from Clarkesville states there is a gun-boat, with 500 Federal troops on board, at Eddyville, Kentucky, sixty miles below the former place.
There is a current report that a sharp skirmish occurred a few days since at Celina, Jackson county, Tennessee, near the Kentucky line, between Tennessee troops and Kentucky Unionists.
The latter fied, leaving a large lot of guns and ammunition.
Nine Federals were killed, and two Tennesseeans wounded.
Passengers from Bowling Green to-day report that an engagement took place on the 17th inst, at Greensburg, on Green river, 30 miles above Mundfordville, between the forces under Gen. Hardee, 1,500 strong, and the forces under Gen. Ward, 2,000 strong.
At Camp Andy Johnson the latter was repulsed after a sharp engagement.
A duel in Kentucky. Nashville, Oct. 19.
--Dr. Allen and a gentleman named Long, both from Shelby county, Ky., fought a duel at the Horse Cave, on the 16th inst., The affair was honorably adjusted after the first fire.

--Members of the Legislature had a meeting last night, and recommended an electoral ticket.

--Gen. Mansfield Lovell assumed command of this department on yesterday.
