General: Captain: I have the honor to submit the following report of the expedition to Weems's Springs, Tennessee. In compliance with your instructions from Headquarters, District of the Cumberland, I left camp at Nashville, Tennessee, with my company, F, First Missouri cavalry, Major-General G. Granger's escort, at daybreak on the morning of the eighteenth instant, and proceeded to Hillsboro, where I arrived at one o'clock P. M. Here, in accordance with your instructions, I was joined by company C, Fourteenth Michigan infantry, (mounted,) under command of Captain Mackey. I left there at nine o'clock P. M., travelling all night, and arriving within half a mile of Weems's Springs at eight o'clock, on the morning of the nineteenth instant.
