neat and trim, while there are many improvements combining comfort with safety. The cabin is really elegant, the door panels, pilasters and caps being of highly polished rosewood, mahogany, black walnut, and Brazil wood, and all the arrangements in good taste. The forecastle is comfortable and spacious, and in this respect affords the sailors a place of rest, which they do not often find on board ship. The brig was built by J. H. J. Rutter, of Baltimore, and is owned in New York. The ship Virginia Dare, built by Messrs. Abrahams & Co., of Baltimore, for the Trade Association of this city, will soon be here to load for Liverpool. The same firm is progressing well with the second vessel for the Association, at the yard opposite Richmond. This ship-yard has two launching ways, and the capacity to construct about two thousand tons per annum, and adjoining is a steam marine railway, of sufficient capacity to haul out the largest vessel or steamer that can ever come to this port.
