Captured. --A negro was yesterday arr by officers Morris and Adams, charged stealing one box of candles, valued at $264, the property of the Confederate States.--He was locked up for safekeeping.
Heavy robbery. --For some time back robberies of various descriptions from he C. S. store-houses in this city have been reported to the police, and they have endeavored to keep a sharp look out for the perpetrators of them. On yesterday, having suspicions to direct them, officers Morris and Adams succeeded in arresting a Frenchman named Trama Constant, residing on 14th street, below Cary, and, upon instituting a search of his premises, they found twenty-nine pairs of pants, three jackets, six pairs of shoes, and one box of candles, which it is believed he had stolen. An investigation will be had before the Mayor this morning.
Violating the Liquor ordinance. --On Sunday last officer Adams, while in the neighborhood of Mrs. Ann McDonald's grocery, on 25th street, between Grace and Broad, saw a little boy leave her house with a bottle of whiskey in his hand, which he had purchased from her. Knowing it to be a violation of the ordinance regulating the sale of ardent spirits in the city, he obtained a warrant for her appearance to answer the offence. His Honor fined Mrs. McDonald $15.
