--Yesterday afternoon officer Adams came nigh being killed by John J. Ames, who was on a frolic at the time.
Ames had fired a pistol in the street, which attracted the officers, and had then gone into Backman's saloon.
The officers proceeded to ascertain the cause of the firing, and as Adams reached Backman'skman's saloon.

Adams immediately knocked the pistol down, when it exploded, the ball passing between his legs, without injuring him. Ames was then arrested and lodged in prison. kman's saloon.
