Martha Cook, a very pretty, well, dressed white woman, of about eighteen or twenty summers, was fined $15 for keeping at cook shop in the lower part of the city without first obtaining a license to do so.--She readily "planked down the dust,"and asked the Mayor's instructions as to the mode of procuring the proper license and thereby avoid all legal trouble for the future. Two negroes, named Washington, the property of Turpin & Yarbrough, and Robert, slave of John C. Allen, were arraigned on the charge of stealing two baskets of crockery ware and one large rocking chair, valued at $300, from Robert Richardson, a few days since. In addition to the evidence which was given in the case proving the guilt of the parties, it was intimated that they had been engaged in running off a negro woman, formerly belonging to Mr. Richardson. 50 dollars reward --Ran away from Jetersville, on the 15th of this month, my boy Allen, who was hired to Mr. James Moore, of that place. Said boy Allen is a bright, gingerbread color, 19 years old, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, rather high forehead, and is very likely. I will give a reward of fifty dollars for his delivery to me at Jetersville, Amelia county, or lodged in any jail so that I get him again. He may arm to go to Richmond. George E.
