Acknowledgement. Camp near Centreville, Fairfax Co., August 25th, 1861. The Rev. P. Slaughter acknowledges with gratitude the receipt of many comforts for the sick and wounded soldiers in this encampment, from Mrs. Dr. Conway, Mrs. J. L. Bacon, Mrs. Jno. A. Smith, and other ladies in Richmond. If these ladies could see how refreshing their contributions were to those who are suffering and dying for our "altars and our fires, " they would have their reward even in this life. Many will pray that our kind benefactors may also receive the blessing promised by our Saviour to those who give even a cup of cold water to his disciples in his name. P. Slaughter, Chaplain of 19th Reg't Va. Vol.
