Immense congregations assembled at this period in almost any brigade at which we had preaching, and some of the scenes are as vividly impressed upon me as if they had been yesterday. Dr. John A. ands upon us; and I witnessed the professed conversion of hundreds of our brave men. My own brigade (Smith's, formerly Early's Virginia) was fortunately camped near Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church and a Methodist church in the lower part of Orange county, and Rev. J. P. Garland, of the Forty-ninth Virginia, Rev. Mr. Slaughter, of the Fifty-eighth Virginia, and myself united in holding meetings in both of these houses. We were fortunate in having at different times Rev. Dr. J. A. Broadus, Rev. F. M. Barker (the gifted, eloquent and lamented preacher who took in my tent the cold which resulted in his death), Rev. L. J. Haley and others to help us, and the work went graciously on until interrupted, but not stopped, by the Bristoe campaign. There were 250 professions of conversion, and a revival among Christians, of the highest value. ef address. The Committee on Election of Officers reported the election of four Vice Presidents, viz: Elders. Wm. F. Broaddue, D. Witt, T. Hume, R. Ryland. A. P. Abell, of Charlottesville, was elected Secretary, and J. B. Walkins, of Richmond city, Treasurer. Rev. W. S. Perrick was appointed Assistant Secretary, who read the Constitution and Rules of Order. Rev. Dr. Ryland presented the following resolution: That a committee of five be appointed to report a plan for the best method of instructing our slaves in the doctrines and duties of the Gospel. On motion, a committee of five was appointed to prepare a list of the members of the Association. Rev. Daniel Witt, of Prince Edward, was appointed to preach the annual discourse to-night, in the absence of the Rev. F. M. Barker, appointed at the last Association. A Committee on Religious Exercises was appointed; also, a Committee on Business. Adjourned to 8 P. M. Prayer by Rev. Dr. Wm. F. Broaddus.
