Samuel Beatty, leader of a brigade in the Fourth Corps. William B. Hazen commanded a division under McPherson. J. M. Corse held the Fort at Alatoona pass. Joseph F. Knipe, leader of a brigade in the Twentieth Corps. Charles Candy led a brigade in Gary's division of the Twentieth Corps. later under Grant.
