for sale.--Having determined to remove to Richmond to reside I will sell at public auction, on the premises, on Thursday, the 8th November, 1860, at 11 o'clock A. M., (if fair; if not, on first fair day thereafter,) the Farm on which I now reside, lying on the Richmond and Fredericksburg Railroad, five miles above Richmond, containing 170 acres of land. After the sale of the land, I will sell, in like manner, my Slaves. Milch Cows, Horses, Mules, Corn, Oats, Fodder, Household and Kitchen Furniture one Rockaway, and two Carts, and whatever also there may be on the farm for sale. Terms.--For the land, a credit of 1, 2, and 3 years, bearing interest, secure by personal and real security. For the slaves, a credit of 6 months, interest added, for negotiable notes and approved endorsers. Death of Mr. Taylor. --John O. Taylor, Esq., who was shot by Joseph Bernard, in Henrico county, over two weeks ago, died on Sunday night, about 10 o'clock. Mr. Taylor retained his consciousness to the last, and his sufferings, during a period of seventeen days, were most intense. An inquest and postmortem examination were held yesterday, but we have not heard-the result. The prisoner, Bernard, received the intelligence of Mr. T's death with composure. His examination will probably take , who was shot by Joseph Bernard, in Henrico county, over two weeks ago, died on Sunday night, about 10 o'clock. Examination of Joseph Bernard. --The examination of Joseph Bernard, for the murder of John O. Taylor, took place yesterday, before the County Court of Henrico--Justices Garnett, Waldrop, Jackson F. Children, J. T. Children, Dickens and Lee presiding. Messrs. Lyons and Crane for the defence--Mr. John B. Young for the Commonwealth. After the opening of the case, Mr. Lyons stated that it was not proposed to make any defence at present, and suggested that the prisoner be at once remandedJoseph Bernard, for the murder of John O. Taylor, took place yesterday, before the County Court of Henrico--Justices Garnett, Waldrop, Jackson F. Children, J. T. Children, Dickens and Lee presiding. Messrs. Lyons and Crane for the defence--Mr. John B. Young for the Commonwealth. After the opening of the case, Mr. Lyons stated that it was not proposed to make any defence at present, and suggested that the prisoner be at once remanded for final trial, an order for which might be made out in any form the Commonwealth's Attorney thought proper. Mr. Young replied that under the rule adopted by the Court, they could not waive an examination at this time. The Court must be satisfied that the evidence was sufficient to justify the remanding of the prisoner for trial. He would, however, make it as brief as possible. Wm. A. Barnett was then sworn for the Commonwealth. He narrated the circumstances of the shooting of Mr.
The Circuit Court of Henrico. --Hon. John M. Gregory, Judge--will commence its Spring term in the State Court-House, in this city, on the 25th day of April, Joseph Bernard will be tried before Judge Gregory, for the murder of John O. Taylor, Esq.
Henrico Circuit Court. --Judge John M. Gregory, of this Court, will commence the trial of criminal causes now on the docket on the 25th inst. The number of criminals now listed is three, all of whom are charged with murder, viz: Joseph Bernard, for the murder of Jno. Oscar Taylor, and Randolph Bennett and Wm. T. Meltoa, for the murder of a free negro, on the old Williamsburg Stage Road, some months since.
Henrico Circuit Court. --The Spring term of this Court, Judge Gregory presiding, commenced yesterday in an upper room of the State Court-House, the Court room below being in use as an office by the Inspector General. No business worthy of notice was transacted. A grand jury being sworn in, examined witnesses and returned indictments against Wm. T. Melton and Randolph Bennett for manslaughter (killing a negro,) and against Jos. Bernard for the murder of John Oscar Taylor. "The trial of the implicated parties will be commenced in a short time.
Murder trial. --The case of Joseph Bernard, for the murder of John O. Taylor, is set for to-day in Henrico Circuit Court.
Trial Postponed. --The case of Joseph Bernard, now pending in Henrico Circuit Court, for the murder of John O. Taylor, Esq., was set for trial yesterday; but in consequence of the difficulty of obtaining a jury, the prisoner was remanded to jail, and the case laid over till the next term.
