[For the Dispatch] Hon. John M. Botts.--A statement from the Washington States was transferred a few days since into your paper, and which has gone the rounds of the press, purporting to give the particulars of a conversation between Mr. BottsMr. Botts and the President, in which he advised the President "to use grape for the rank and file, and hemp for the leaders." This is a shameful perversion of the facts, as no man has labored more energetically to preserve the peace of the country than Mr. Mr. Botts. It would be an endless task for Mr. B. to correct all the misrepresentations that have been circulated in regard to him, but his friends feel authorized to give the most emphatic contradiction to the rumor above referred to, as they havet leaving the port, if some had not already done so. It is but a simple act of justice to the patriotic efforts of Mr. Botts to preserve the Union, and to avoid the dreadful alternative that is upon us that this statement should be made; and wh
