Haile, daughter of the late Col. James C. Haile, of Kershaw county. John D. M. Shaw John D. M. Shaw, of Laurens county, S. C., was born in the house in which he now resides six miles south of Laurens, June 21, 1846, the son of Benjamin F. Shaw, a native of Laurens county. His mother was Elliott J. Boyd, daughter of John Boyd. He was reared on the old homestead, where he now resides, and where he has been living all his life, very successful as a farmer and now being one of the wealthiest and most extensive cotton growers of Laurens county. Mr. Shaw was too young to enter the war at the beginning, but in February, 1864, he joined Company E, Seventh South Carolina cavalry, Capt. Wash Williams, and Col. A. C. Haskell, Gen.
