Brooks, John Whitmore, Edward Oakes, Capt Hall, and Samuel Bradshaw to Consult and discover together to Se if they could propose any Place for the said scoole House to be moved unto where the whole Town might comply To. This vote sounds like a bit of sarcasm, and, as might be expected, the committee did not agree. Then the vote was put whether the Town would move the Said Scoole House to the corner of Samuel Bradshaws land near by John Reeds Barn and there was a Tye. But those who wished the school moved were in earnest and were not to be discouraged by an adverse vote; so we find again, May 2, 1740, a motion to move the Scoole House into the Country Roade betwixt Jona Bradishe Dwelling House and Madm Martin's House. This was not carried and another motion was put to erect a Scoole House in the place or Places mentioned in last vote abovesaid. This too was lost, and still the movers kept up their
