Fatal Occurrence. --Some ten days ago Lieut. Branscom, enrolling officer for this county, accompanied by a single member of the guard, went into the lower end of the county for the purpose of gathering up conscripts and deserters. He succeeded in getting four of the former and one of the letter. Two of those arrested asked nant to go with them to the house, that they might get their clothes. The request was at once granted, and they all proceeded to the house. The men entered, Lieut Branscom and his assistant remaining on the outside. In a moment after entering the men returned to the yard with loaded guns in their hands, pointed at the Lieutenan, which are of course illegal under the circumstances. He and his guard were then permitted to return to Abingdon.--A few days after, with an adequate guard, Lieut. Branscom revisited the scene of his former adventure; but of course the birds had flown, though he succeeded in arresting several other conscripts. On starting with t
