t happened which resulted in the death of the oldest surviving officer of the Church, Deacon Henry Bright, Junior, at the age of 84 years. Judge Sewall, in his Diary, records his death as follows:—Oct. 6, 1686, Mr. Bailey is ordained at Watertown. Oct. 7, Thursday, Deacon Bright, carrying home chairs, etc., used at Mr. Bailey's, is hurt by his cart, none seeing, so that he dies Oct. 9, Saturday. It seems he was ye only officer left in that church. Several of his ribs broken. Deacon Bright lived opposite the present Alvin Adams place. His property descended to his son and grandson, affice in Boston, on Milk Street, there was found the grave-stone of Joshua Hewes. Hewes and Deacon Bright married sisters; the former Mary, the latter Anne Goldstone, daughters of Henry and Anne Gol who came to Watertown in 1634, when the daughters were respectively 15 and 18 years of age.
