Miscellaneous cases. --A warrant charging John L. Ray with assaulting William Harris was dismissed by the Mayor yesterday, the witnesses having failed to appear. Mary Carroll, summoned to show why she should not be fined for selling ardent spirits on Sunday, was heard in her own defence and discharged. Bridget Callahan, arrested for vagrancy, was admonished by the Mayor and released. Wm. Jones, a lad, was fined five dollars for participating in a "rock battle," which sum his father was called upon to pay. The Mayor directed the police to give especial attention to the behavior of the boys on French Garden Hill. Isaac Coles, free negro, without a city register, was discharged on condition of his immediate departure for Albemarle, where he belongs. A charge against Blanch Mayden of "threatening to cut Kate Robertson with a knife, " led to the display of a vast quantity of fashionable millinery in the usually gloomy courtroom. Straw hats with black feathers
