He was a native of Cambridge, and was first settled at Arundel, now Kennebunk, Maine. He received three invitations for settlement on his return to Cambridge,—from the New North Church, Boston, from Menotomy, and from Charletown, the last of which he accepted, and the same day declined the other two (Budington, Hist. First Ch Charlestown, 234). See Wyman's Chs 774; Paige's Camb. 632. and hence on May 21, 1739, the day Mr. Prentice's answer was publicly read, Mr. Cooke was unanimously chosen minister. 1739 The organization of the church was accomplished.
