We are told that Gen. Stuart, after his late foray into the enemy's lines, declared himself under heavy obligations to Lieut. Jones Christian, Lieut. D. A. Timberlake, Mr. Timberlake, and Mr. Frazier, for their arduous labors during the whole march, and for their most valuable assistance in pointing out the route through Hanover and New Kent.
The aid rendered by these officers was of great value, and their presence ensured success to what might otherwise have proved a doubtful march.
General Stuart has frequently spoken of their service in very complimentary terms, and has publicly acknowledged their aid. Intelligent guildsmen, thoroughly acquainted with every road and by path in the section, are indispensable to the success of an undertaking so hazardous as that accomplished by Gen. Stuart.
