City Council
--There was a meeting of this body yesterday afternoon.
Peter W. Ralston was confirmed as first clerk in the Auditor's office, under Mr. Harrison, the newly elected Auditor.
The following ordinance, offered by Mr. Clopton, was agreed to:
Be it ordained, by the Council of the City of Richmond, that the ordinance entitled an Ordinance to enforce the payment of the Taxes on Licenses be and is hereby annulled, by striking out at the close of the first section all words but the following: "Double the amount of taxes which may be assessed or imposed upon them on account of such licenses. "
Mr. Hill offered a resolution inquiring into the expediency of allowing free negroes, for any purpose whatever, to come into the city of Richmond, which was passed.
