July 14th, Voted, to pay to each volunteer who enlists for three years military service, and is credited to the quota of the town, a bounty of one hundred dollars. The selectmen were authorized to borrow money to pay the same. A committee consisting of William Endicott, Charles A. Kilham, Joseph E. Ober, Daniel Foster, A. N. Clark, B. T. Mansey, Isaac Studley, Edwin Foster, Joseph Conant, John Knowlton, Josiah A. Haskell, Benjamin E. Cole, John F. Ober, Winthrop T. Porter, and John I. Baker, being one from each school district, and six at large, was appointed to assist the selectmen in the matter of enlistment. August 21st, Voted, to pay to each volunteer for nine months service a bounty of one hundred dollars, when mustered in and credited to the town, and the same amount to all Beverly men now in the active service who have not already received a bounty from this town or any other city or town.
