Suspecting something wrong, after Shumaker left the shop he went there himself and inquired about the matter when he learnt that the prisoner claimed them as his property, and only left them till he could return from business which he had in another part of the city. There being no testimony offered in behalf of the defence, the prisoner was remanded for indictment by the Grand Jury of the Hustings Court. The following negroes were whipped: Tom, slave of Mary E. Terry, and a slave named John, arrested with two pieces of bacon in his possess
