inquest. --An inquest was held as a late hour Sunday afternoon, by Dr. J. P. Little, coroner for the city, over the body of a soldier named J. E. Cosby, who had been shot a short time before, near the corner of Nineteenth and Main streets, by the guard who was carrying him to Castle Thunder, Cosby, who was a member of Major Cosby, who was a member of Major George W. Alexander's battalion, had committed some breach of military discipline, for which he was placed under arrest and sent to this city by a guard. On reaching the locality mentioned above he attempted his escape by running in front of some ladies who were passing up Main street, and failing to halt when the command was given, raised his musket and fired, killing him instantly. The verdict of the inquest was in accordance with the above facts, and exonerated Robinson from all blame in the matter. It is stated that, close was Cosby to several ladies when he was shot, some of the blood when spirted from his wound besmeared our of their dresses.
