They had a son John, who had a son Richard, who in turn had a son Thomas, who had a son Thomas, who had a son William, and William Cradock was the father of Matthew Cradock, Medford's founder and first friend, as the author of Brooks' History reverently expresses it. Here we depend upon another source for our information, finding that our Cradock inherited property and buildescribed as in our manor in Metford in New England. Sir William de Caverswall built a castle at Caverswall in 1275. It fell into a ruinous condition, and according to some authorities, was rebuilt in 1643 by Matthew Cradock— others say by William Cradock.
