Arrests. --Officer Crone, of the day police, arrested John W. McDowell yesterday, and put him in the cage, on the charge of stealing a horse, valued at $200, from Elias White.

In pursuance of the Mayor's intention to rid the city of as many suspicious characters as possible, by the exercise of all the authority vested in him by law as the representative of the sovereignty of the city, he ordered the police, on Tuesday night, to enter the house on the west corner of Cary and 12th streets, kept by one Alice Achleigh, and arrest the proprietress and inmates, male and female. This was done at 11 o'clock, by a force headed by officers Seal and Crone Whether the parties to be effected by the operation of the guardians of the law had gotten wind of the intended raid and prepared themselves or not, is not known; but the evidence of the officers showed that they found a very quiet party assembled on their entrance, and a vigorous search only served to bring forth two male visitors. The females, numbering thirteen, including the keeper of the house, being notified, assembled in the parlor, and were informed that Alice Ashleigh was arrested
