Crowninshield, arrant Schuyler 1843-
naval officer; born in New York, March 14, 1843; graduated at the United States Naval Academy in 1863; was commended for his gallantry in both attacks on Fort Fisher; promoted captain July 21, 1894; became chief of the Bureau of Navigation April 8, 1897; and during the American-Spanish War was a member of the Board of Naval Strategy.

Crowninshield, Benjamin William 1772-1851
born in Boston, Mass., Dec. 27, 1772; elected to the State Senate in 1811, and appointed Secretary of the Navy by President Madison in 1814. President Monroe also appointed him Secretary of the Navy.
He resigned in November, 1818.
In 1823 he was elected to Congress, and served until March 3, 1831.
He died in Boston, Feb. 3, 1851.
