The fire was undoubtedly the work of an incendiary, and is supposed to have been imposed upon Mr. Gwynn in revenge for his having, as the captain of a most efficient neighborhood patrol, ordered the lash to several negroes who were out of their places at wrong times of the night, without a pass.--His loss is estimated at $3,000, and two years work. A similar accident happened to the barn of Capt, George Crump, a neighbor of Mr. Gwynn, and a member of the patrol, a few days before, by which he lost about $1,500. Now, it so happens that both of these gentlemen are of the highest stamp in every respect, and accordingly very influential citizens. The community, therefore, felt themselves obliged to act, and a large meeting of the best citizens was held at Chuckatuck a day or two after Mr. G.'s fire, and resolutions passed, first, of censure against some who opposed the patrol, and secondly,
