th, The selectmen were authorized to borrow fifteen hundred dollars to aid the families of volunteers. July 21st, Voted, to pay a bounty of one hundred dollars to each volunteer for three years service when mustered in to the credit of the town, and to appropriate three thousand dollars to pay the same. August 15th, Voted, to pay a bounty of one hundred dollars to each volunteer for nine months service, and to borrow four thousand dollars for that purpose. Edwin Young, Caleb W. Prouty, Henry Damon, William Ferguson, and Benjamin Brown were appointed to assist the selectmen in recruiting. October 11th, The bounty to each nine-months volunteer was raised to one hundred and fifty dollars, and the treasurer was authorized to borrow thirty-five hundred dollars to pay the same. 1863.
