A Northern item. --The Boston Transcript is a paper which circulates among the bonton Yankees, and makes high pretensions to respectability, and yet, so debased is public sentiment at the North, that the Transcript is capable of publishing such a paragraph as the following! Young Jeff. Davis.--A lady friend of ours, who was staying at the West Point Hotel summer before when Jeff. Davis and his family were visiting the same place, relates that one of the Davis children, a boy of only four years, bearing the ignominious name of Jeff.
