on of the tender care of the people for the people's braves. It was a bit of home feeling, of home bounty, brought to the tent, put into the hand of the wounded soldier. I feel grateful that I was permitted to participate in this work. Mr. H. P. Dechert was placed in charge of this store-house, and was assisted permanently by Messrs. Edgerly, Bacon, Murray, and Bowers, with a detail of four soldiers. To this force, at first, were added Messrs. Johnson, Biddle, Gall, and Paige.
