county of Botetourt; to incorporate the Newport and Gap Mills Turnpike Company; to amend and re-enact the second section of the act passed May 11, 1852, entitled an act to authorize the construction of the Wolf Creek Turnpike Road, in Giles and Tazewell counties; to incorporate the Old Dominion Mining and Manufacturing Company; refunding to Jas. Thomas, Resolved, That the Auditor of Public Accounts be requested to inform the Senate what increase in the rate of taxation, if any, will be necessary to defray the expenses of the Government,

d and influential Democrat. The two secretaries were leading, active and influential Whigs. The committee who reported the resolutions were three Democrats and two Whigs. Strong secession speeches were made by Mr. Thornton, (Bell elector,) Mr. Dickinson, (Breckinridge elector,) and Col. Bolling, a leading Douglas man. When the vote was about to be taken the chairman urgently requested that every man present would vote distinctly aye or no, that the sentiment of the county might be fully no, that the sentiment of the county might be fully known. Upon putting the vote there was a general shout of Aye and one solitary no. At this stage of the proceedings Mr. Dickinson arose in the bar, and renewed the request that if there was any other gentleman in the meeting who dissented from the resolutions he would signify it by voting no. But no other "no" could be elicited. So Prince Edward may be set down as perhaps the most unanimous county for immediate secession in the State.

he provisions of a deed of trust, dated the 24th October, 1860, and recorded in the Clerk's Office of Hanover County Court, on the 25th October, 1860, from Burwell B. Dickinson, and Otery F., his wife, to the subscriber, I shall, at the request of-- Hutcheson, the beneficiaries in said deed, on Friday, the 19th of April, 1861, (if deed of trust: "Five slaves — man Henry, man Ned, boy John, girl Jane, and woman Milly; and the Tract of Land, in the county of Hanover, on which the said Burwell B. Dickinson now resides, with all the appurtenances thereof, estimated to contain 56½ acres, being the same land which was conveyed to the said Burwell B. Dickinson byain 56½ acres, being the same land which was conveyed to the said Burwell B. Dickinson by Wm. Hancock, and which adjoins the lands of E. A. Rowzie, Michael Shroneller, and William T.
