he early part of the year Bro. Archer came under a serious charge, deeply affecting his character for morality. He had been tried by a civil court and acquitted, and by a committee of the Church, which also acquitted him. He had not been laboring on his circuit since April last. His case was laid over until such time as he shall be present. On motion of Rev. P. Whitehead, Rev. Messrs. Doggett and Langhorne were appointed a Committee on Missions. The following preachers in the local relation were elected to deacons' orders, viz: Jas. R. Griffith, Robert Hardie, Jr., John A Jefferson, Charles Collett, Wm. Bartlow, George Slaughter, and John V. Crute. The following local deacons were elected to elders' orders, viz: Francis M. Edwards and Heartwell T. Pryor. On motion of Rev. Nelson Head, Rev. Jas. McAden was re-admitted into the travelling connection and placed on the superannuated list. The Conference adjourned for the day, with the benediction by the Bishop.
