[for the Richmond Dispatch.]Aid for the soldiers. Glade Spring, Washington Co., Va. August 21st, 1861. The ladies of this vicinity on the 29th ult. formed an association for the purpose of rendering aid to the gallant men engaged in the defence of our liberties; and notwithstanding it is one of the most efficient organizations of the kind in the State, it has passed unnoticed. It is called the Glade Spring Soldiers' Aid Society. The officers are Mrs. John H. Ernest, President; Mrs. Wm. B. Byars, Vice-Pres't; Mrs. E. A. Robinson, Treasurer, and Miss Virginia Edmondson, Secretary. They have four committees, consisting of five ladies.--Miss Mary Cunningham is at the head of the committee to solicit contributions; Mrs. Mary Smith on delicacies for the sick; Mrs. P. B. Shapp on lint, bandages, &c., and Mrs. David M. Stuart on clothing for the needy. Arthur Goodwin, an old and highly respected citizen of Fredericksburg, died at that place on Monday last. He was Cashier of the Farmers' Bank at the time of his death. John H. Ernest, of Hanover county, killed a hog lately, of his own raising, only seven months old, which weighed two hundred and thirty pounds. Poor Pigs.--A facetious friend says the hogs in a certain county in Tennessee are so poor that the farmers have to their tails, to keep them from turning over while rooting. Mrs. Susan Arnold, of Campbell, gave, a few days ago, forty pairs of socks to a volunteer company from that county. Walter H. Finnall, of Stafford county, Va., died at Harnum's Hotel, Baltimore, on the 13th inst. The North Carolina State Baptist Convention convened on Wednesday, the 13th inst., at Raleigh.
