re a spirited firing was kept up until 12 o'clock, when the 19th Virginia, Col. Gant, was sent up to relieve the battalion companies. They, however, declined being relieved, and remained until their ammunition was exhausted. At 4 o'clock the whole force was ordered back, and the firing ceased. The following is a list of the killed and wounded in the battalion companies: Company B.--Killed: J S Layne.
