Gerard, James Watson 1794-1874
Lawyer; born in New York City in 1794; graduated at Columbia in 1811; practised law in New York till 1869; secured the incorporation of the House of Refuge for Juvenile Delinquents in New York, which was the first institution of this kind in the United States.
He was also an ardent advocate for a uniformed police.
He died in New York, Feb. 7, 1874.
