Hill's command and Longstreet's veterans. The fight raged furiously dure enemy were posted behind hills in great strength, and at one time it seemed impossible to dislodge them. About noon Gen. Gibbon was relieved by Gen. Doubleday's command.--Gen. Mead, who was fighting against superior odds, was also reinforced by Gad the effect of checking the rebels and driving them back a short distance.
