Gilmore, James Roberts 1823- Author; born in Boston, Mass., Sept. 10, 1823; turned his attention to literary work. In July, 1864, with Colonel Jaquess he was sent on an unofficial mission to the Confederate government to see if peace could be established. Jefferson Davis gave answer that no proposition of peace would be considered except the independence of the Confederacy.
