I am a boy and a cripple.--They won't let me help in fighting, except on my own hook, and that I am determined to do. But permit me to place in your hands, for you to hand over to the proper persons, the small sum of $30 for the defence of Virginia. It is part of a sum which I have been hoarding up like a miser, that I might give myself an education; but, I now lay it on the altar of Virginia as an humble tribute of the love and affection which I bear towards her, and with the heartfelt prayer that the South may be able to shake off the heavy burthen of mountainous monstrosity and galling slavery which the ungrateful North threatens and is endeavoring to crush us with.
