He had previously loaned a friend $1,000 of it to pay a debt with, and that money being also returned to him as counterfeit, he took the whole sum given him in Baltimore and deposited it at a prominent auction house, informing them of the character of the money, and taking a receipt for it to be shown to the owner in Baltimore. The accused was arrested by Detective Goodrich Wednesday night, and paroled till next day. When he went for him the next morning the prisoner handed him some money, saying "You have had some trouble, take this, which the detective refused, stating that the Government paid him for his trouble. Several highly respectable witnesses testified to the high character of the prisoner for up right dealing, and the Commissioner discharged him from custody.
