A company was immediately formed, which afterwards was sent to Camp Scott, in Worcester, and became Company G, of the Fifteenth Regiment Massachusetts Volunteers, for three years service. A committee of thirteen was chosen from different sections of the town to whom, in connection with the selectmen, was given the management of the expenditure of the money and the general supervision of war matters, which continued during the years of the Rebellion. Grafton furnished three hundred and ninety-nine men for the war, which was a surplus of forty-seven over and above all demands. Ten were commissioned officers. The whole amount raised and expended by the town for war purposes, exclusive of State aid, was thirty-nine thousand three hundred and fifty dollars and twenty-three cents ($39,350.23).
