April 3d, The treasurer was authorized to borrow, not exceeding three thousand dollars, for State aid to the families of volunteers. August 18th, Voted, to refund the sum of eighteen hundred dollars to such persons as contributed the same in aid of, and for filling the quota of, this town under the calls of the President made in 1864. Hamilton furnished, according to the returns made by the selectmen in 1866, seventy-six men for the war, which is very nigh the exact number, and which was a surplus of eleven over and above all demands. Two were commissioned officers. The whole amount of money appropriated and expended by the town for military purposes during the war, exclusive of State aid, was eight thousand two hundred and forty-five dollars ($8,245.00).
