The Edisto river rises in the southwestern portion of South Carolina, and flowing southwestwardly, empties into the Atlantic forty miles southwest of Charleston. Branchville is on the Augusta branch of the South Carolina railroad, a mile east of the point at which the railroad crosses the Edisto.
