Police arrests. --The following arrests were made by the police yesterday: Thomas White, a free negro from Buckingham, charged with stealing a horse, valued at one thousand dollars, the property of some one unknown; James W. Harris, a white man, charged with receiving the same, knowing the animal was stolen; Henry Moore, charged with drunkenness and insulting ladies in the street; Lawrence, slave of Thomas J. Bolton, and Daniel Ruffin, a free negro, charged with stealing a pocket-book, containing seventy dollars, from William H. Jordan; Jane, a slave arrested for using abusive and insulting language to Mrs. C. Hicks; Jane Gibson, a free negro, using threatening and abusive language towards Rebecca Chandler. Allen, slave of John Harris, charged with stealing two and a half bushels of wheat from Ellison & Brother; Gus, slave of Thomas Giles, and James, slave of William C. Hustings Court. --Before the Hustings Court of Magistrates yesterday, Thomas White and William Vaughan, free negroes, charged with horse stealing, were arraigned for examination. White plead guilty, and was ordered to be sold into slavery. As an accessory to the felonious transaction, Vaughan was sentenced to six months imprisonment in the city jail. James W. Harris, of Buckingham, was examined on the charge of stealing a horse from Colonel Cabell, and sent on for further trial before Judge Lyons. The case of Benjamin Degroot, charged with exhibiting the game of faro, was then taken up and argued till 3 o'clock, by Mr. Daniel for the Commonwealth and Hon. James Lyons for the accused, at which hour the court adjourned over till 10 o'clock this morning.
Judge Lyons's Court. --This court met yesterday at half-past 10 o'clock A. M. In the matter of the habeas corpus of B. S. Robbosson, who claimed exemption from military duty on the ground that he was a Marylander, the petitioner was remanded to the military authorities, it appearing that he had resided in the State since 1859. Williamson Inge, brought in on a writ of habeas corpus, was also remanded to the reserve forces. The Grand Jury indicted the following parties for felony: William Bohannon, Joseph E. Henry, John Francis, Madison Smith, James W. Harris, Abby G. Hoeflich, Henry Reese, Joseph Kiser, John Albert and William L. Carroll. The court then adjourned.
Sent to the penitentiary. --James W. Harris, indicted for stealing a horse belonging to Dr. John Mayo, of Goochland, was tried before Judge Lyons yesterday, convicted, and sentenced to the penitentiary for three years. The jury unanimously recommended the prisoner to the clemency of the Governor.
