For three terms he represented the Lexington district in the Congress of the United States; was an intimate friend and earnest supporter of Mr. Clay, and one of the most prominent politicians of the old Whig party.
Being true e and unsullied life could furnish a higher guaranty to the public, that the highest interest of the State in this movable struggle will be safe in his hands.
Major Hawes has four sons now in the Confederate army--one a Brigadier General, two Lieutenants, and one a Regimental Surgeon--all accomplished officers and gentlemen.
