On the following day he detached the Seventh Tennessee, McDonald's battalion and Faulkner's Kentucky regiment, and ordered Duckworth (in command) to assault and capture Union City. The commander there, Colonel Hawkins, Second (Federal) Tennessee regiment, who in December, 1862, had been captured at Trenton, after some parleying and skirmishing, surrendered to Duckworth, with 475 men and their arms, ammunition and horses.
